The Company

A regional, family owned and award winning haulage, waste management and recycling business with a strong presence in Bristol and surrounding counties. They provide a variety of bespoke vehicles and highly skilled operatives that provide effective solutions to the construction and civil engineering industries.

Purpose of the Role

To provide effective leadership and strategic management to the operational, transport, sales and business support functions. Ensuring compliance with applicable legislative requirements and company policies. It is expected that this individual will hold a Transport Managers CPC qualification.

Key responsibilities

* Provide Leadership, give work instructions, monitor performance and compliance within the transport and business development functions.

* Provide appropriate Transport Managers CPC for the company Operator Licence and responsible for production of all necessary and timely compliance reporting.

* Agree to be named on the company Operator’s Licence as Transport Manager and will take responsibility and legal accountability.

* Recruit, select, manage, motivate, train, counsel and develop staff as required.

* Provide operational input into the setting of strategic company objectives cascading to the development of departmental objectives.

* Deal effectively with under performance, implementing disciplinary procedures as required.

* Liaising with Workshop Manager and Waste Manager to ensure that resources available for the transport team to match the customer demands

* Ensure that all aspects of Health and safety are adhered to, including H&S induction, training, operating procedures and accident/near miss reporting.

* Customer relationship management with customer site visits

* Identify key business development opportunities using transport and field sales information

* In conjunction with the senior team develop, monitor and ensure that financial business objectives in line with published budgetary requirements are met.

* Critically review and recommend industry best practices, Implementing new protocols and ways of working, organising training and support during change management projects.

* Must be computer literate with Microsoft including Excel.

Experience Required

* Must have worked in relevant sector i.e Waste/Construction/Aggregates/Drainage.

* Must have UK experience.

* At least 5 years’ experience in a senior management position.

* Significant person management skills, selecting, training, management and appraisal.

* P&L responsibility and experience, monitoring and managing in line with agreed budgets.

* Commercial experience with customer business development

* Liaison with applicable legislative and regulatory bodies, Environment Agency, DVSA, HMRC, HSE, etc.
