With your knowledge of Polymer-Technology you take Protact to the next level!What's your job?An opportunity has arisen for a Process and Product Technologist with specialist knowledge of polymer chemistry, technology and/or processing. One of the key strategic developments within Tata Steel Packaging is the further growth of Protact , a polymer-coated packaging steel, where a thin coating of polyester or polypropylene multi-layer film is applied to the steel, giving our customers significant advantages compared to current products. To facilitate the growth, we have built a film extrusion line and a film lamination line in Ijmuiden. Both processes are within your ;
Our customers (B2B) for Protact are producing cans for food and aerosols and are supplying to the Brand Owners. Especially for the food market food safety is a main aspect of the development. Obviously, for us but also for the whole supply chain, the sustainability of these materials is of utmost importance and the strong sustainability credentials of our product will be supported by the function. To realize the longer-term objectives on process and product development, resulting in volume growth for this product (and ultimately profitability of the Packaging business) you will further develop & implement our exciting new Protact process and ;â The role will be within the Central Technical team, focused on process and product development for Protact and rolling out the product to customers. You will play a key role in ensuring consistent supply to the right quality in a cost-efficient way, supplying material to our customers, solving generic performance problems at our customers. To achieve this, you will be part of one or more Agile teams and, dependent on experience and requirement, function as Product Owner or team member. In these multi-functional Agile Teams, close co-operation is facilitated with Manufacturing, Marketing, Customer Technical Service, R&D and ;â Dependent on your experience, as starting-up phase and to ensure build-up of sufficient knowledge on our production processes and on can making technology, you will initially also work (partly) within the manufacturing and R&D ;â Main tasks include but are not limited to:
  • Lead specific product developments to solve generic or specific problems at customers
  • Close co-operation with our current operations in IJmuiden and Belgium and with R&D to help optimise processes
  • Contribute to R&D programmes to support process and product developments
  • Maintain polymer supplier contacts and coordinate qualification programs for new raw materials
  • Realising process understanding of the lamination process by designing trials and experiments, drawing relevant conclusions and translating results to the optimal operation of our production lines
Is this you?Within this position you will have the possibility to work on the development and commercialisation of a new product and make this successful, therefore we're looking for a candidate with the following skills and competences:
  • Master degree or equivalent in Chemical Engineering, with focus on Polymer Technology and/or Polymer Processing.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience (in industry is an advantage)
  • Specialist knowledge of polymer properties is a must. Practical experience with polymer film production (extrusion) is an advantage.

What's your department?You will be part of the Packaging Technical department, working closely together with Sector, Marketing and Hubs in Belgium and the Netherlands. Within the department there are four disciplines: Customer support (CTS), responsible for the technical customer contacts and complaint handling; Process Technology, mainly focussing on the metallic coating process; Product Management and Development, responsible for new product portfolio development, and Protact Development and Management in which you would operate.
