Aquilo recruitment are working with a market leading cylinder manufacturer on the shift pattern of days 6:00-2:30pm Monday to Friday - with opportunities for progression and a great culture and working environment.

The Welding Cells Shift Manager will lead 3 welding cells (circa 30 people) on the day shift to support all activities and deal with all challenges as they arise.

Delegate and organise work to ensure that schedules are adhered to, deadlines are met and make recommendations on ways to improve performance.

Set goals and targets for the team and provide regular feedback on achievement. Maintain a clean and safe workplace in accordance with 5S, conduct regular audits and feedback on findings.

The role requires a strong people leader, with experience in change management and working within a fast paced manufacturing environment.

Essential requirements include:

• Support for all area activity, dealing with all challenges as they arise and ensuring that all issues are highlighted to the senior Production Managers.

• Delegate and organise work to ensure that schedules are adhered to and deadlines are met

• Make recommendations on ways to improve performance

• Ensure co-operation and co-ordination of hand-over between shifts

• Ensure efficiency and effectiveness of team performance v targets, addressing issues as they arise using a tiered management system capturing Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost metrics to drive performance.

• Lead on kaizen (work improvement activity) – using appropriate analysis tools where required with other relevant functions (e.g. Quality, Engineering, R&D etc)

• Maintain a clean and safe workplace in accordance with 5S, conduct regular audits and feedback on findings

• Ensure all safety procedures, working practices and standards are adhered to at all times, auditing regularly and feeding back on findings. Participate in the risk assessment process.

• Set goals and targets for the team and provide regular feedback on achievement

• Understand and promote preventative maintenance routines where appropriate

• Ensure effective communications with their own team, managers and colleagues

• Train new employees and coach existing team members, identifying training and development needs

• Conduct investigations to safety, 5S, work method and procedures

• Lead by example, demonstrating valued behaviour’s and recognising these in others.

• At least five years leadership experience in a fast paced, production environment, with welding knowledge/experience would be preferable but not essential

• Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills

• Thorough understanding of working procedures and standards

• Quality and customer focused

• Analytical with problem solving skills

• Good levels of IT literacy.
