Where will I work?
This role offers a hybrid schedule giving you the opportunity to work in our San Francisco Office, travel within the Counties of San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin and work from home.
What you’ll Do:
The Deaf Access Specialist will support the expansion of deaf service resources, provide training and expertise to regional center staff, and coordinate with the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) on statewide efforts. This position provides agency-wide support for individuals who are deaf or hard-of-hearing and have developmental disabilities, identifying and developing resources to provide improved services and supports.
Responsibilities:
Work with GGRC social workers, individuals served, families, and community based organizations to identify unmet service needs.
Conduct outreach to Community Based Organizations serving people who are deaf and hard of hearing to identify generic resources and facilitate discussions about becoming GGRC vendors when appropriate.
Conduct outreach to existing GGRC vendors to collaborate on ways the provider may expand service offerings for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Work with potential new vendors and the GGRC Community Resource Development team to vendorize new services.
Serve as an internal resource to social work staff to identify appropriate services based on the needs of the individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing on their caseload.
Work with GGRC Quality Assurance team to follow up on concerns relating to service delivery for individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing as appropriate.
Facilitate and/or collaborate with other GGRC team members (eg social workers, Rights Specialist, etc.) on the facilitation of regularly scheduled support groups for individuals receiving services and for families.
Facilitate regularly scheduled service provider round table discussions.
Work with service providers to identify gaps in their current service delivery and possible solutions to help increase service access for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Participate in statewide collaboration efforts with staff members in similar positions at other regional centers, along with DDS’s Deaf Access Specialist, to identify best practices, strategies, and processes to implement at GGRC
Compile data and reports as needed for DDS and others.
Organize and facilitate/present trainings for regional center staff and service providers, developing trainings and informational materials, as needed.
Evaluate the quality of skills and effectiveness of ASL interpreters.
Assist in recruiting and interviewing qualified ASL interpreters and real-time closed-captioning.
Prepare and provide information regarding deaf and hard-of-hearing accommodations for GGRC materials.
Assist in the investigation of and follow up on whistleblower complaints concerning deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, vendors, or services.
Participate in special projects, and assist with additional duties or tasks, as assigned.
Maintain all client information as confidential in compliance with the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and the California Lanterman Act.
Requirements
You have:
Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Social Work, Social Services, or related human services field required. Master’s degree preferred
Minimum of two years’ experience working in the field of or similar to that of developmental disabilities.
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
Basic familiarity with MS Word®, MS Excel®, MS PowerPoint®, MS Outlook® or similar software applications
Ability to operate basic office equipment, including scanners, copiers, faxes, phones
Ability to convey complex information and ideas in a clear, concise and professional manner orally and in writing
Ability to work with a diverse group of people from different departments.
