Houston Behavioral Healthcare Hospital is currently recruiting for full-time Psych Mental Health Technician for PICU unit 12 noon to 12:30 am.
MHT Duties:
Participate in treatment planning: (a) helps identify patients' problems, needs, and strengths; (b) suggesting modifications to treatment plan based on observations of patients' behavior,
Performs patient rounding every10 minutes or 15 minutes, and communicates, and documents patient observation effectively to licensed registered nurse.
Communicates outcome of assigned tasks to nursing staff in a timely manner.
Communicates follow-up on patient care responsibilities; incomplete assignments, ongoing activities and current patient needs
Accompany and transport patients as assigned.
Inventories patient belongings accurately and secures contraband as needed.
Maintain patient, program, department, and related documentation.
Demonstrates the ability to employ de-escalation
Orient new patients to unit, program, and milieu.
Assists patients in carrying out activities of daily living, when congruent with the patients' treatment plan and needs, age, and developmental level.
Participates with departments and that all program expectations and rules are adhered to, and report behaviors to supervisor, which will assist in consumer treatment.
Upholds the Organization's ethics and customer service standards.
Performs related duties, as requested.
Requirements
Minimum Education:
High school, GED, or equivalent preferred with some college coursework in psychology or related field.
1 year experience in behavioral health.
CPR required. Must complete CPR certification and Houston Behavioral de-escalation program. within 2 weeks of hire date.
Work Experience:
Must be able to display an understanding of the basic concepts of safe, supportive, nurturing, and therapeutic human interactions. Demonstrates leadership by training new employees. Demonstrates ability to follow behavior programs. Must be able to read, write and follow verbal and written instruction. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to maintain information as highly confidential; telephone etiquette and customer service skills by phone and face-to-face; familiarity with medical and psychological terminology preferred; skills in dealing courteously with the public and other staff within the organization; basic knowledge of human behavior or principles of psychology useful; skills in prioritizing and in managing time; problem-solving skills; use of appropriate social skills, including demonstration and respect for staff and patients; empathy toward patients; skills in teaching or assisting with activities of daily living helpful. Basic or general knowledge of human growth and development helpful; familiarity with, or basic insight into, emotional needs of adolescents; experience with therapeutic limit-setting helpful, or an understanding of level systems or other behavior management modalities; ability to maintain professional boundaries and willingness to seek supervision in this regard.
