EHS Engineer

Hours: 37.5 Hours per Week (Monday – Friday)

Salary: Competitive Contract: 12-month fixed term contract (maternity leave)

Our clients is a renowned global manufacturer and supplier specialising in pressure sensing solutions. They provide sensors utilising electronic strain gauges to generate highly linear and predictable output signals across various temperatures. This technology serves as a crucial component across diverse industries, ensuring both safety and precision in their operations.

Job Purpose

The EHSQ function holds significant importance within the organisation, collaborating with both external suppliers and internal stakeholders to consistently surpass customer expectations while prioritising safety. As a member of the EHSQ team, the EHS Engineer plays a pivotal role in enhancing the environmental, health, and safety culture of the business through proactive and reactive strategies. The ideal candidate should possess prior experience in successfully implementing and managing EHS continuous risk reduction programs. In the role of EHS Engineer, you will be adept at managing complex dependencies and issues, offering recommendations and options to align with business objectives. Exceptional communication and influencing skills are essential, along with a proven ability to engage stakeholders effectively across diverse areas.

Responsibilities

* Continuously enhance the company's Health, Safety, and Environmental management systems.

* Assist management in developing and maintaining E and H&S policies and guidelines to ensure compliance with legislative requirements.

* Foster a positive Environmental, Health & Safety culture throughout the organisation.

* Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses to identify root causes and provide reports aimed at minimising future risk to As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP).

* Conduct Hazard surveys and complete Risk Assessments as needed.

* Ensure implementation of control measures identified through Risk Assessments into company operating procedures and standard work methods. Assess and periodically review equipment covered by PUWER regulations.

* Provide necessary EHS support, advice, and supervision. Identify and coordinate safety training requirements. Facilitate and lead monthly EHS meetings, ensuring timely closure of action items.

* Develop briefing sessions, Toolbox Talks, and inductions for employees, contractors, and visitors.

* Compile and report safety and environmental statistics, including accidents and near misses, and analyse frequency trends.

* Contribute to fostering an EHS culture at all organisational levels.

Requirements (Essential)

* NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health.

* Technical Membership of IOSH (TechIOSH) with evidence of continuous professional development (CPD).

* Proven track record in an EHS role supporting a high-volume manufacturing environment. Proficiency in hazard identification, risk management, and compliance.

* Experience in policy and procedure management and development.

* Skilled in designing and delivering safety training programs.

* Familiarity with accident and incident reporting and recording procedures.

* Strong communication skills and ability to cultivate relationships within a manufacturing setting. Thorough understanding and practical application of PUWER assessments, LOLER regulations, COSHH, Fire Safety, Safe Systems of Work, RAMS & Permits to Work, Hazard Surveys & Assessments, Risk Assessments, Safety Inspections, First Aid / Accident Reporting & Investigation, EHS Audit & Inspections, Compliance Calendar, Contractor / Visitor Managemen andLegal Regulations & Standards Register

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

* Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.

* Strong analytical and reporting aptitude.

* Goal-oriented with a positive attitude and ability to perform under pressure while adapting to business needs.

Requirements (Desirable)

* IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management

* Training qualification e.g. City & Guilds Level 3 award in Education and Training.

* ISO14001:2015 – Environmental Management System: Development & Implementation.

* ISO45001:2018 – Health & Safety Management System: Development & Implementation.
