We are looking to recruit a part-time Finance Officer and Cost Accountant to work as part of a small team reporting directly to the MD. Working 21-25 hours per week
Using a combination of our in-house database, Opera accounts and Excel, the suitable person would be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Business’s bookkeeping processes including payroll, by team members and be solely responsible for the preparation of regular Financial and Costing Reports for discussion with the Directors. A good working knowledge and experience of using Opera Accounts, Microsoft Excel and Word is essential. Training will be given for any skills gaps.
The duties would include, but not limited to: -
Management of debtors ledger
* Checking sales invoices for correct nominal/ department coding including checking correct VAT treatment of foreign, CIS and DRC invoices
* Overseeing timely management and issues of sales invoice, debtors control and debt chasing by team members
Management of creditors ledger
* Recording of supplier invoices into Opera and managing timely settlement via BACS
* Credit ledger control and management
* Making payments to staff for claimable business expenses via BACS
Maintenance of Nominal Ledger, Cashbook and VAT records
* Recording bank, credit card and cash transactions and perform monthly reconciliations
* Posting journal entries for wages, depreciation and stock movements
* Submission of VAT via MTD
* Preparation for annual Audit by external Accountants
Financial Reporting using Opera Accounts and Excel
* Preparing annual budgets in consultation with the Directors
* Preparation of regular budget v actual reports for presentation to Directors
* Preparation of detailed cost related/department reports for Directors
Other Responsibilities
SALARIES AND WAGES
* Calculation and preparation, including starters and leavers of weekly and monthly wages and payslip distribution using both Excel and Opera
* Maintaining holiday records
* Prepare returns and make payment of PAYE/NI, CIS tax, child maintenance etc
* Payment of pension contributions to NEST
* End of year processes, forms and reports
GENERAL OFFICE DUTIES
* Fleet management for company cars and vans
* Contract agreements; mobile phones, heat and light etc
The person
* Must have a finance background
* AAT qualifications are desirable but not essential
* Experience using Opera, Excel and Word
* Involvement in payroll
* Must be able to prepare budgets
* Ability to prepare and set up accurate financial spreadsheets in MS Excel
* Be positive, proactive and dynamic - look for solutions to problems and ways to improve
* Remain flexible in an ever-changing environment
* Have excellent attention to detail
