We are recruiting for a Mortuary Technician for the Royal Borough of Greenwich.Bereavement Services Team

The GPM provides mortuary provision and supports the Inner London South Coroner’s Consortium consisting of Lewisham, Lambeth, RBG and Southwark Local Authorities.

Main duties of the job

• To maintain an up-to-date knowledge and awareness of recent developments in Pathology

• To develop and utilise specialist knowledge and experience related to the work undertaken

• Provide anatomical pathology assistance to colleagues and pathologists.

• Admission, measuring and registration of the deceased ensuring they are identified, cared for and stored in accordance with HTA guidelines.

• Receiving referrals from internal service users and provide accurate information regarding time scales

• To assist colleagues with the delivery and maintenance of a high quality safe, efficient, and effective mortuary service

• To be computer literate as the role can involve the use of Microsoft packages.

You will be required to have an understanding of current mortuary practice and have knowledge of routine post-mortems, high risk cases, Coroner’s cases, forensic work including the documentation and legislation associated with death and organ retention.

Previous experience of dealing with the public and being sensitive to cultural needs and dealing with the bereaved is also required. At Greenwich Public Mortuary we operate in accordance with the HTA requirements, codes of practice and departmental standards and protocols.

We regularly prepare for our HTA inspections by maintaining high standards of quality by conducting audits, formulating risk assessments/ SOPs and investigating incidents in which you will be required to assist the team as directed by the Mortuary Manager.

GPM is also a Designated Disaster Mortuary (DDM) and supports all London wide Coroners, emergency services and agencies when required.

The successful candidate will be expected to assist with mortuary provision outside of normal working hours. Individuals should be motivated, be able to maintain confidentiality, have excellent communication/interpersonal skills, be well organised, be able to present to clinical staff and be able to accommodate the needs of a highly skilled team The candidate must hold or be work towards the Diploma in APT and have significant current practical mortuary / bereavement experience. Experience and knowledge of all practices including all types of PM examinations is welcomed. The department holds a HTA license and encourages all staff to be UKDVI and AHCS registered. The candidate will ideally have bereavement experience if not yet fully qualified
