JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Performs highly complex (senior-level) work creating hydrometeorological data products and tools for the TexMesonet program, which operates and maintains a network of earth observations stations across Texas and publishes information at (url removed). Created in 2016, TexMesonet is designed to collect the data necessary for observing and tracking mesoscale weather events, such as thunderstorms; for improving models and forecasts for severe weather, floods, fires, and droughts; and to enhance public safety, agricultural productivity, and research. Work involves leading the Data Products Team for the TexMesonet program, including evaluating and overseeing the development of data products, overseeing data dissemination to key stakeholders and the general public, and implementing data quality measures. Advises on (url removed) enhancements and performs other activities as assigned. Provides technical assistance to staff, stakeholders, and customers as needed; and communicates analyses and results to general and technical audiences. May train others. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Manager of the TexMesonet Department 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Serves as Team Lead of data products for the TexMesonet program. 
Serves as a technical advisor on topics related to meteorology data products and tools.
Leads the development and maintenance of enhanced data and product services for the TexMesonet program.
Conducts complex hydrometeorological research to enhance the TexMesonet program, improve the accuracy and dissemination of datasets and information, and develop value-added data products.
Works with stakeholders to identify user needs and develop value-added data products.
Performs qualitative and quantitative (statistical) analyses of TexMesonet data.
Implements data quality assurance and control processes, analyzes data quality results, and reports necessary changes to ensure data quality improvement.
Applies knowledge of hydrometeorological data science, including that of emerging research, to advise on business decisions and program direction.
Monitors, approves, and coordinates public data dissemination for newly installed environmental stations.
Assists in creating, reviewing, and evaluating scientific reports, studies, work processes, field notes, and data.
Serves as a project and/or contract manager.
Enters technical data into databases, preparing reports, website updates, and summaries.
Assists in reviewing and evaluating scientific reports, studies, field notes, and data.
Develops maps, charts, and graphs.
Coordinates and collaborates with other government agencies and institutions to maintain a hydrometeorological network
May travel up to 5% of the time.
Maintains confidential and sensitive information.
Ensures individual and team files (electronic and hard versions) are appropriately maintained and timely disposed of in accordance with the agency’s records retention procedures and schedule.
Maintains required certifications and licenses and meets the continuing education needs and requirements of the position to include, attending mandatory training courses.
May be required to operate a state or personal vehicle for business purposes.
Performs other duties as assigned.
