My client in Hampshire is currently looking for an Associate Mechanical Design Engineer due to expansion.
The job holder shall have first line responsibility for all mechanical work within any projects coming under his/her control.
The job holder will be required to:-
* Attend project meetings with Clients and other Design Team Members, Contractors etc.
* Carry out condition surveys, feasibility studies, report writing etc.
* Carry out site surveys for projects, to obtain all relevant information required for carrying out scheme design.
* Carry out detailed scheme designs enabling competitive tenders to be obtained for the works.
* Write specifications for the works.
* Correspond with other design team members and the Client on technical issues.
* Carry out calculations, both manual and by using computer based systems.
* Provide budget costings as and when required.
* Comment upon tenders received for projects.
* Comment upon Contractors’ installation/working drawings
* Answer Contractors’ queries during construction/installation period.
* Attend site progress meetings as and when required, together with monitoring Contractor’s standards of workmanship and materials, together with progress against overall construction programme.
* Prepare list of snagging/outstanding works at appropriate time(s) during construction/ installation period.
* Witness final testing and commissioning carried out by Contractor.
* Assist when required, in agreeing interim application for payment by Contractor, together with agreeing final account with Contractor when appropriate.
* Monitor the finances of projects throughout all stages to make certain they are financially successful by ensuring efficiency at all times.
* Assisting the Designated Members in identifying the resources needed to carry out the design and site monitoring roles etc., on projects.
* Keep the Finance Department informed of project fees and the up-to-date progress of the programme. Finance should also be advised when invoices can be submitted to Clients.
* Keep CAD and Reception fully aware of project deadlines. Allowance should be made for the time needed to prepare and print drawings and specifications.
The projects coming under this job holder’s control should be those agreed by him/her with the Designated Members.
It is anticipated that, due to the seniority of this position, the Designated Members will delegate a great amount of the responsibility for mechanical design services within the Partnership to the job holder. If ever such delegation is made and the job holder is unclear as to his/her duties, then the job holder shall seek advice/direction from one of the Designated Members within the Practice with all possible speed.
The job holder shall be responsible for supervision of the mechanical design engineers in terms of work quality and quantity. Any areas of shortfall in the opinion of the job holder, should in the first instance, be discussed with the individual directly. In the event of continued anxiety over any particular individual’s performance within the operation, that anxiety should be brought to the attention of the Designated Members.
The job will frequently involve contact with clients, and it should be borne in mind that the Practice’s image and presentation is of paramount importance at all times. One of the duties of this job holder shall be to assiduously and earnestly seek new opportunities and business for the Practice at all times.
It is the job holder’s responsibility to comply with Health and Safety regulations on site as well as within the Practice’s office.
It will be necessary from time to time for the job holder to draw tools and/or equipment from the Partnership, and use this equipment on site. Whilst this equipment is in the job holder’s care, it is his/her responsibility. Any losses or damage should be reported to the Administration Member at the first available opportunity.
The job holder shall willingly and freely carry out any other such duties as may be reasonably requested by the Partnership’s management from time to time.
Salary (£70,000 - £80,000)
