£40,000 - £46,000 per annum plus £5,688 per annum car allowance, bonus and benefits.

Due to a secondment in the business, we are looking for a warehouse automation professional to join the Smiths News Operations team for a fixed term contract of between two and three years with an immediate start available.

Reporting into the existing job role holder, you will be required to provide management and ownership of the support of existing warehouse technologies along with bringing expertise and advice to the business to aid decision making on future automation investments.  You will be offered a hybrid and flexible working model based at our Head office in Swindon with depot visits as required.

About the role

To undertake day to day management a small field-based team supporting 34 depots nationally

Responsibility for the uptime management of warehouse technologies including pick by light systems, returns sortation, thermal printing solutions etc.

Use device management tools for maintaining & configuring c. 1,000 rugged mobile computers for delivery and returns processes

External relationship management with key operational technology suppliers & manufacturers

Identification of future automation technologies to provide further efficiencies and support future business growth

Discovery, recommendation, business case development and implementation for new warehouse technology investments

About you

A logistics professional with a keen interest and solid experience in the selection, implementation and management of warehouse and delivery technologies, being able to offer competencies in

Team Leadership

Account management

Proficiency in warehouse automation solutions

Enterprise mobility

Project management (including deployments)

End to end specification, recommendation & delivery of warehouse technology solutions

Desirable skills:

Experience of working in Transport & Logistics/3PL sector

Use of Transport Management Planning, Routing and Delivery Systems
