Research Technician (f/m/div) About the institute The Max Planck Institute of Biophysics is a leading international research institute that uses biophysical, biochemical, and computational methods to investigate the structure, dynamics, and function of cellular systems at the molecular scale. It consists of four scientific departments, multiple research groups, and scientific core facilities, with about 200 employees from more than 25 countries. The Membrane Dynamics Department aims to understand the underlying physical principles and molecular mechanisms that govern membrane organization and dynamics. We focus our research on mitochondrial changes during apoptosis as well as on membrane permeabilization as a common feature in the execution of regulated cell death. To this end, we have established a multidisciplinary department that develops new microscopy tools and combines advanced microscopy, biophysics, biochemistry, cell biology, and mouse models. Therefore, we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated research technician. The candidate will strengthen the biochemistry and cell biology part of our Interdisciplinary group and work closely with colleagues coming from diverse backgrounds. Specifically, the candidate will help designing, conducting, and analyzing experiments and will carry out individual research projects. The candidate will support our scientific vision by applying a broad range of biochemical and molecular biology techniques, like light microscopy, CRISPR / Cas9 genome editing, and cellular activity assays. Experience with and knowledge of molecular biological techniques, such as molecular cloning, cell culture, protein expression, biochemical assays, and purification are required for this position. Molecular biology: cloning, qPCR Biochemical analysis of protein: purification, characterization, WB blots, labeling CRISPR / Cas9 genome editing Cell culture: bacterial, insect, mammalian Plate reader assays and protein activity assays Operating and maintaining lab equipment and organization Completed training as a BTA / MTA or B.Sc. in biochemistry, molecular biology, biomedical science, or equivalent Hands-on experience with molecular biology and biochemistry techniques Extensive knowledge of protein biochemistry and cell biology Independent, well-organized, and reliable work style Communicative and interested in the interdisciplinary field thereby contributing to an open and interactive lab culture Good English and German communication skills IT skills (MS Office) Responsible, independent, and varied job A motivated team within an international working environment with flat hierarchies Employment with all the benefits of the public sector in a friendly and dynamic working environment, also available on a part-time basis Work-life balance thanks to a high degree of flexibility The institute's own childcare facilities within walking distance of the workplace A company pension scheme (VBL) A wide range of training and development opportunities The Germany job ticket (optional) The salary is in accordance with the German federal public service salary scale (TVöD) up to E 9b. The position will be available starting from the July 1st and will be initially limited for two years with the possibility of an extension.
