Temporary Works Design Engineer

Responsible for the Design and coordination of all temporary works design activities Major Structures & Viaducts section.
* Design & Calculation all Temporary Works (TW) activities ready for construction to meet project requirements.
* Ensure the BBV Temporary Works Register is maintained and newly identified items are correctly risk assessed.
* Ensure that construction methods statements and risk assessments comply with the requirements of the temporary works design.
* Ensure that information relevant to the temporary works has been received from the client, principal designer and permanent works designer, as appropriate.
* Ensure that a design brief is prepared with consultation within the project team and
that it is both adequate and in accordance with the actual situation on site;
* Ensure that any other temporary works in the vicinity are referenced in the design brief;
* Ensure that a design check is carried out by someone who was not involved in the original design
* Issue certificates
* liaison with third parties and project team members
Ensure inspections are carried out
* Programme and plan the temporary works to determine the priorities for temporary works designs.
* Advise the permanent works (PW) designer of proposed construction methods and advise on buildability.
* Definition of temporary conditions and loadings to be agreed with the PW designer.
* Management of health and safety risk.
* Review of method statement and work plans and other construction documents.
* Participation in technical meetings providing support to the construction team (e.g. Interdisciplinary design review and checks).
* Ensure the residual risks identified by the permanent and temporary works designer are addresses in accordance with CDM2015 and ensure that a CDM Design Risk Register is maintained. This requires active use of BBV’s CDM Safetibase and engagement with HS2 operations and maintenance representatives.
* Ensure the design meets the HS2 Environmental Minimum Requirements, including all requirements for environmental mitigation.
* Ensure temporary works schemes comply with Works Information Contract Requirements Technical (CRT), Technical Standards.
* Ensure compliance with the Works Information and BBV Project Execution Plan and Technical Assurance processes.
* Liaison with Technical Approval Authority and external approval bodies such as Highways Authorities, Network Rail, Statutory Undertakers.
* Work in accordance with the BBV Design Management Plan and the Basis of Design documents.
* Ensure Technical Queries are raised in a timely manner and seek early resolution to avoid impact on the design programme.
* Maintain an up to date design assumption log and close out prior to final technical assurance stages.
* Maintain an up to date design risk register and close out prior to final technical assurance stages.
* Ensure Departures are raised and accepted where strictly necessary for area of responsibility.
Work closely with the BBV Consents team to ensure design deliverables are produced to meet consent application requirements
