Job Description
Reporting to the Principal, the Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing classroom instructional leadership and implementing trauma-centered curriculum activities in a manner that promotes the educational development of each student.
Key Responsibilities:
Creates and implements lesson plans that meet the diverse needs of all special education students
Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning
Reviews curriculum and devises approaches to increase student understanding and engagement when necessaryConducts ongoing assessments of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student’s needs
Organizes and maintains a system for accurate record-keeping, grading and reporting for all student activities and achievements
Directs support staff as they work alongside you to ensure the needs of the children are being met
Consults with other teachers, team members and learning specialists to develop enrichment activities and modifications to students’ learning plans
Participates in the organization and administration of all state-mandated requirements, such as testing
Implements Hope Academy’s behavior response methods, which are based on trauma-research and the Conscious Discipline method
Attends trainings that will adequately prepare you for working with children who have experienced trauma
